Beginning the School Year
Father in Heaven, Creator of all and source of all goodness and love, please look kindly upon us and receive our heartfelt gratitude in this time of giving thanks. Thank you for all the graces and blessings. You have bestowed upon us, spiritual and temporal: our faith and religious heritage. Our food and shelter, our health, the loves we have for one another, our family and friends. Dear Father, in Your infinite generosity, please grant us continued graces and blessing throughout the coming year. This we ask in the Name of Jesus, Your Son and our Brother. Amen. Pray this short prayer: We give you praise, O God, for everything that is new and beautiful, for everything which holds promise and brings us joy. Bless us as we start this new year with our friends and teachers Help us to make the most of every chance we have to start afresh. Amen. Setting up for Prayer
Prepare to create a classroom/homeroom Sacred Prayer Space. This video Prayer Spaces in Schools talks about designing spaces for students to experience prayer in creative and meaningful ways. Keep in mind key symbols e.g. candle, bible, cross or crucifix, icon and liturgical colours. Introduce different additional symbols e.g. flowers, rocks, leaves, oil, water, images, a word or a quote for prayer times depending on the focus so that the prayer space does not become static. It is the Church Season of Ordinary Time and the liturgical colour is green. The Catholic Church follows a three year cycle of readings. This year is Cycle A and is known as the Year of Matthew.
