Second Sunday of Lent
Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9 All three gospels link the Transfiguration with the warning of Jesus, that he was ‘destined to suffer’ in Jerusalem, and that those who are his true followers must ‘take up their cross and follow him’. This is my Son, the Beloved, listen to him Teacher Background Image: Transfiguration - dimitrisvetsikasi1969 - https://pixabay.com/images/id-2069634/ |

St Frances of Rome
St Frances is an Italian saint who was a wife, mother, mystic, organizer of charitable services and a Benedictine oblate who founded a religious community of oblates, who share a common life without religious vows. Frances nursed her husband until he died. After his death, Frances moved into the house with the other Oblates and was made superior. At 52 she had the life she dreamed of when she was eleven. She had been right in discerning her original vocation -- she just had the timing wrong. God had had other plans for her in between. Pray: Saint Frances of Rome, help us to see the difference between what we want to do and what God wants us to do. Help us to discern what comes from our will and what comes from God's desire. Saints Perpetua and Felicity
Saints Perpetua and Felicity, along with several Christian companions, were put to death for their faith at the beginning of the third century. Many legends about the early martyrs are dubious, but an authentic account of the imprisonment and death of Perpetua and Felicity was preserved, written in part by Perpetua herself (from her diary) and by another martyr, and completed after their executions by an unknown Christian. Saints Perpetua and Felicity, watch over all mothers and children who are separated from each other because of war or persecution. Show a special care to mothers who are imprisoned and guide them to follow your example of faith and courage. Amen Image: Sts Perpetua and Felicity https://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=48 |

Glory of the Saviour
Throughout our long Lenten observance, we are encouraged to keep in mind the triumphant glory of the Saviour that we are preparing to celebrate, and the challenge it brings to us. Pray: Almighty and Everlasting God, You have given the human race Jesus Christ our Savior as a model of humility. He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man And giving His life on the Cross. Help us to bear witness to You By following His example of suffering And make us worthy to share in His Resurrection. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son. Amen. Thandolwayo's Story
Life in Thandolwayo's village in north-western Zimbabwe wasn’t easy for the 12 year old. Every morning she’d walk seven kilometres and risk being attacked by crocodiles to collect 5 litres of clean water for her grandparents. Exhausted from carrying the water, she’d then start her day at school..... Image: http://www.caritas.org.au/compassion/ |
