SUNDAY 19th May
Fifth Sunday of Easter John 13:31-35 During these Sundays of Easter, the liturgy has led us to reflect upon how the disciples came to faith in the Risen Lord, and how they came to terms with the future it opened up for them. Clarifying the message of faith they must bring to the Church of all ages, must have involved looking back upon the frightful drama that led to the Saviour’s resurrection, and coming to understand how a ‘crucified Christ’ could be proclaimed as ‘both the power and the wisdom of God’ (1 Cor 2). In today’s gospel reading we hear how the community inspired by the beloved disciple remembered the words of Jesus at the Last Supper as pointing the way towards understanding. St Rita of Cascia
Are you faced with a difficult problem? The prayer to St. Rita of Cascia (1381-1457) shown below might help. After all, St. Rita, pictured at left, is known as the “Saint of the Impossible.” Pray to St Rita: Holy Patroness of those in need, Saint Rita, so humble, pure and patient, I pray a prayer of thanks, for people in our world who do good to help those in poverty or who are without home or love. May they continue to be guided by your wisdom and your strength. I pray that I might be guided by this same wisdom and strength to think through my problem, seek the guidance of others to come to a solution that suits well with me and that will bring hope to me and maybe others. Prayer of Consolation
In the gospel for the 5th Sunday of Easter, we hear Jesus console us, asking us to not let our hearts be troubled because he goes only to prepare a place for us and that “No one comes to the Father except through me.” Prayer to be Consoled “Jesus, every time I hear you say I don't have to let my heart be troubled, I pause. It is really nice to feel that you are so close to me, and that I'm not alone today. Thank you for today. Let me put everything aside tonight. I know you will be with me all day tomorrow.
