Sixth Sunday of Easter
John 14:23-29 We shall come and make our home in him The days in which the Risen Lord has shown himself to his disciples, leading them to full faith in him, are coming to an end – ‘I am going away, and shall return’. The disciples have come to recognise, that faith in what God has done for the world in Christ brings a daunting task: ‘As the Father sent me, so am I sending you’; ‘By this love you have for one another everyone will know that you are my disciples’. Praying for Reconciliation
The love of God flows through the land on which we gather today, let us pause in silence and acknowledge the traditional owners who have cared for this land for generations. Let us honour those elders past, present and emerging whose sacred connection with this country is a gift to us all. Image by Patricia Galea. Used with permission. |

Prayer of the Aboriginal People
Father of all, you gave us the Dreaming. You have spoken to us through our beliefs. You then made your love clear to us in the person of Jesus. We thank you for your care. You own us. You are our hope. Make us strong as we face the problems of change. We ask you to help the people of Australia to listen to us and respect our culture. Make the knowledge of you grow strong in all people So that you can be at home in us and we can make a home for everyone in our land. Amen. Prayer composed for the meeting between Pope John Paul II and the Aboriginal people. Image: Religion Catholic Justice and Peace Commission of Brisbane – cjpcbrisbane.wordpress.com |
