Body and Blood of Christ Year C (Corpus Christi)
John 6:51-58 Today’s liturgy, like that of last Sunday, invites us to a deeper appreciation of the Paschal Mystery we have just celebrated. Today we renew our faith in the great sacrament in which the Saviour’s Paschal Mystery gives life to the Church age after age. Give them something to eat yourselves Teacher Background Image: RobertCheaib - Pixabay License - Free for commercial use - No attribution required |

The Nativity of John the Baptist
It is unusual to be commemorating the birthday of a saint instead of their day of death which is considered to be the date of their birth into eternal life. The only other ‘births’ in the liturgical calendar are the nativity of Christ and the birth of the Virgin Mary on 8th September. According to tradition, John the Baptist was endowed with special grace at the time of the visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth, John’s mother, so the feast of his nativity was considered to be of greater solemnity than that of his death. From the late 4th century, the feast has been celebrated on 24th June, 6 months before the birth of Jesus. Prayer: O God, who raised up Saint John the Baptist to make ready a nation fit for Christ the Lord, give your people, we pray, the grace of spiritual joys and direct the hearts of all the faithful into the way of salvation and peace. Praying to Saints Peter and Paul
June 29 marks the Feast of the Solemnity of the Apostles Peter and Paul in the Catholic Church calendar. These two great pillars of Christianity were both martyred for the faith. Their Feast is celebrated together. Priests and deacons throughout the entire world wear Red at the Liturgy, symbolizing that the blood of the Martyrs, as the Second Century Church Father Tertullian so clearly proclaimed, "is the seed of the Church." Grant, we pray, O Lord our God, that we may be sustained by the intercession of the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, that, as through them you gave your Church the foundations of her heavenly office, so through them you may help her to eternal salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Praying for a safe holiday
Loving Lord, we thank You for times of rest and relaxation and the opportunity to refresh our spiritual and bodily batteries. During this time away from my work place I ask that You would release any conscious or unconscious stresses or strains that I may have built up over the past months.. and help me to switch off my mind from the urgent things that may be mounting up, so that I may return reinvigorated.
