Luke 12: 49-52 Gospel Reflection No doubt Luke knows that his readers would be startled by today’s reading: ‘Do you suppose I bring peace. No, I tell you, but rather division’. But he sees these statements of Jesus as important for the Church community of his time, that was facing great difficulties: not only from persecution on the part of outsiders, but also from internal disputes and divisions that sometimes ended up in the civil court, disputes that divided the Christian community itself and even the families that belonged to it. Such a situation calls for stern measures. I have come to bring fire to the earth Teachers' Background Image: Hillsong Church |

St Bernard
Heavenly Father, Saint Bernard was filled with zeal for Your house and was a radiant light in Your Church. By his prayers may we be filled with his spirit of zeal and walk always as children of light. Praying with the Body
Create a Works of Mercy Tableau Spiritual: acts of compassion by which we help our neighbors with their emotional and spiritual needs—counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish sinners, comfort the afflicted, forgive offenses, bear wrongs patiently, pray for the living and the dead Corporal: kind acts by which we help our neighbors with their material and physical needs—feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the imprisoned, remember the dead In groups students are assigned a specific work of mercy to present a single acted out image of tableau. A prayer bell signals for the next work of mercy to be proclaimed and portrayed. Conclude this time with a time of silence and reflection. Daffodil Day
See the website for ideas about how to be involved in Daffodil Day if it is appropriate. Prayer is one way you can show support for those who have cancer. Loving God, source and destiny of all life, we ask for your gentle and comforting presence for those who struggle with illness. Give them, we pray, the courage and hope of faith in your promises. Be near to their families and give them the grace of your peace. We ask this prayer in Jesus’ name, Amen. Creative Commons image by Sabrina S. Used with permission. 2.0 Generic (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0) |
