Third Sunday of Easter
Luke 24:13-35 For many centuries, Christian awareness has not been focused as it should be, on all that the Saviour’s Resurrection means in the life of the Church. That the Church lives through ‘the power of the resurrection’ was the central truth preached by the apostolic Church. This is clearly illustrated in today’s readings. The manifesto proclaimed by Peter on the day of Pentecost hinges on this truth – the resurrection is pointed to as unassailable evidence that it is intervention of the God of Israel’s faith that is being announced; but more than that, established ‘at God’s right hand’ the Risen Christ now bestows the Holy Spirit on the infant Church and sends it forth on its mission. They recognised him in the breaking of the bread Teacher Background Image: Holy Spirit - Efrimstochter - https://pixabay.com/images/id-2424282/ |

Feast of St Peter Chanel
Anyone who has worked in loneliness, with great adaptation required and with little apparent success, will find a kindred spirit in Peter Chanel. Lord, you sent St. Peter Chanel to bring the light of faith to the peoples of Oceania and gave him the crown of martyrdom. May our celebration of Christ's death and resurrection make us faithful witnesses to the new life he offers, for he lives and reigns.... https://www.catholic.org/saints/fun_facts_arch.php?saint=403 |

Feast of St Catherine of Sienna
Catherine of Siena (25 March 1347 – 29 April 1380), a laywoman associated with the Dominican Order, was a mystic, activist, and author who had a great influence on Italian literature and the Catholic Church. Canonized in 1461, she is also a Doctor of the Church. Holy Spirit, come into my heart; draw it to Thee by Thy power, O my God, and grant me charity with filial fear. Preserve me, O ineffable Love, from every evil thought; warm me, inflame me with Thy dear love, and every pain will seem light to me. My Father, my sweet Lord, help me in all my actions. Jesus, love, Jesus, love. Amen. https://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=9 |

Feast of St Joseph the worker
We celebrate two feast days for Joseph: March 19 for Joseph the Husband of Mary and May 1 for Joseph the Worker. March 19 has been the most commonly celebrated feast day for Joseph, and it wasn't until 1955 that Pope Pius XII established the Feast of "St. Joseph the Worker" to be celebrated on May 1. This is also May Day (International Workers' Day) and believed to reflect Joseph's status as the patron of workers. Pray: Glorious Saint Joseph, pattern of all who are devoted to toil, obtain for me the grace to toil in the spirit of penance, in order thereby to atone for my many sins; to labour with thankfulness and joy, deeming it an honour to employ and to develop, by my labour, the gifts that I have received from Almighty God; Image: St Joseph https://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=4 |
