10-12 MAY
EASTER TIME |

Fifth Sunday of Easter Year A
During the Easter Season, the Church seeks a greater appreciation of all that the Saviour’s Resurrection means for the human family. Christ’s Resurrection is far more than his coming back to life. It is nothing less than the final achievement of God’s work of creation. It is God’s intention that, ultimately, the whole human family, together with creation itself, shall be caught up in this great event. May is Mary's Month
During the month of May, the Church honours with special love Mary the Mother of God. Begin the week with a prayer to Mary. Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Praying Amen!
Amen is a prayer word that Christians use frequently in times of prayer. ‘Amen’ appears in the earliest Jewish texts and is prayed by Muslims as well as Jews and Christians. ‘Amen’ is found in some of the books of the Old Testament as well as the Gospels and to conclude prayers in Paul’s letters. It is also prayed in Liturgy and in the celebration of Sacraments. It was and still is used to declare something to be true or to confirm something. It indicates that one strongly agrees with something like “I agree!” or “I believe!”

Feast of Our Lady Fatima
Today, the 13th day of May, is the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima. It was on this day that the Blessed Virgin Mary started her series of apparition to three shepherd children in the small village of Fatima in Portugal in 1917. O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Queen of the most holy Rosary, you were pleased to appear to the children of Fatima and reveal a glorious message. We implore you, inspire in our hearts a fervent love for the recitation of the Rosary. By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption that are recalled therein may we obtain the graces and virtues that we ask, through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Lighting Prayer Candles for mothers and women
Within the Catholic tradition and many other faith traditions, candles are lit as prayers of intercession are prayed. Let us watch and pray as these three candles are lit. We light a candle and pray for all mothers in our community. (Light candle and pause) Lord hear us All: Lord hear our prayer We light a candle and pray for all our mothers and grandmothers who have died. (Light candle and pause) Lord hear us All: Lord hear our prayer We light a candle for all mothers and women in war torn lands, all mothers who are refugees, all mothers who watch their children die hungry and all mothers who live in violent situations. (Light candle and pause) Lord hear us All: Lord hear our prayer Think about out our mothers, our grandmothers or women who do or have played a significant role in our lives. Let us offer a prayer of thanks for these women who have touched our lives in so many ways. (Silent prayer) |

St Matthias
The twelfth apostle was not chosen by Jesus for what he already was, but for what Jesus foresaw he would become. He was elected not because he was worthy but because he would become worthy. Jesus chooses all of us in the same way. What does Jesus want you to become? Saint Matthias, pray that we may become worthy witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus in the way we live the eternal life we have right now.
