Pentecost Sunday
Liturgical Colour: Red Mark 14:12-16, 22-26 Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. The early Christians called the Body and Blood of Christ 'food for the journey.' The same is true for today's times. By receiving the bread – blessed and broken, the cup – poured and shared, Christians say ‘Amen’ to being blessed, broken, poured out and shared in love on a journey to transform the world. Reflect on the journey you are being asked to travel today. How can you make a difference? What will give you strength? Write down some challenges for your day in your prayer journal or, as a class, construct an activity that all can participate in. We Pray- That we will have the courage to offer the servant gift of love to others. In your goodness- All: Lord hear our prayer. Teacher Background |

The first reading in the mass of the day is from St Peter's second letter. It opens with this blessing- May you have more and more grace and peace as you come to know our Lord more and more.
But Peter asks more of believers. You will have to do your utmost yourselves, adding goodness, to the faith that you have, understanding to your goodness, self-control, true devotion to your patience, kindness towards your fellow brothers and sisters, and, to this kindness, love. Sing this simple Alleluia as a class in response- Alleluia Love has Come by Matt Maher (From 1:00- 1:30) Thoughtfully colour some mandalas as you reflect on how to show patience, kindness and love today. Think of a blessing you might give to someone today, like Peter's blessing to his readers. |

We pray for your guidance, to protect all living beings with whom we share our planet. Creator and Redeemer, hear our prayer. We pray for your compassion, to reach out to all those affected by extremes of weather, changes in climate, and the degradation of the environment. Creator and Redeemer, hear our prayer. Amen. |

The Feast of St Marcellin Champagnat
Find out about Marcellin's life in the link and view resources, including art works. Reflect on what these artworks say about the legacy of Marcellin Champagnat for Christians. The Marist Brothers have a beautiful prayer to start the day. Prayer O Lord, open our eyes to your presence, open our lips to you praise, open our lives to your healing, open our minds to your grace, open our hearts to your love, and be found among us.Amen. They also have many other prayers to begin and end the day. Today is also Queensland Day. Let us pray for our state as we thank God for the beautiful wonders it contains. Younger students may like to sing the Queensland Day Song. We pray, Loving God, for a blessing on our state. May we be blessed with peace and may we always work to nurture the beauty of our land and the gifts that you have give us. Amen. |

Gospel Reading
From today's Mass Mark 12:28-31 One of the scribes came up to Jesus and put a question to him, ‘Which is the first of all the commandments?’ Jesus replied, ‘This is the first: Listen, Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord, and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: You must love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.’ Listen to the Gospel read slowly and reflectively for a second time. Allow the words to sink in to your heart … Choose a word or short phrase that speaks to you. Take time to meditate with this prayer word/s. Draw hearts and write/colour in them names of people you wish to pray for or write a prayer to ask for the courage to show love to others during the day. We Pray Leader- Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God…Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of each other …Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of ourselves … We ask God for the gift of love; for ourselves, our families, friends and our world. We ask this through Jesus Christ, the example of love, Amen. |

The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The image of the pierced heart of Jesus has often been seen to point to the depth of Jesus’ love for all people. During the mass of the day, St Paul's letter to the Ephesians 3:14-19 expresses this great love: This then is what I pray, kneeling before the Father, from whom every family, whether spiritual or natural, takes its name: Out of his infinite glory, may God give you the power through God's Spirit for your hidden self to grow strong, so that Christ may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and built on love, you will with all the saints have strength to grasp the breadth and the length, the height and the depth; until, knowing the love of Christ, which is beyond all knowledge, you are filled with the utter fullness of God. The Word of the Lord. All:Thanks be to God. When you think of God's love, is there an image that comes to your mind? Draw this in your prayer journal. What is God saying to you through this image? What would you say to God in return? Leader-May the love of Jesus guard me, inspire me and keep me. All: May the love of Jesus guard me, inspire me and keep me. Repeat these sacred words in the silence of your heart. Allow them to rest there and spend time in silent prayer asking the love of Jesus to be with you in the coming days and weeks. |
