10th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mark 3: 20-35
Who are my mother and my brothers?
Before the reading the Gospel, set the scene with the following prayer...

Let us pray.
Loving God, all good things come from you;
Guide us to do what is right and give us what we need when we ask for your help.
We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
All: Amen.
Following the Gospel reading...

Imagine that you are in this story. Which character are you? Listen to the story again and imagine that it is really happening. How do you feel? In your imagination tell Jesus how you are feeling.

Praying the Sign of the Cross and the Glory Be
  • Catholics are invited and encouraged to make the Sign of the Cross at the beginning and end of prayers and liturgical celebrations and it can be a sign of moving to a special time to talk to or listen to God.  God is named three times in this prayer. It is a mini creed that recognises and celebrates the Trinity. Pray the Sign of the Cross slowly and reverently.
  • The Glory Be is a prayer of praise to the Trinity. Pray the Glory Be slowly and mindfully with gestures. Write, sing, dance or paint prayers of praise, e.g. Glory be to God for my loving family; for my awesome friends; for the wonders of our world.

Prayer
Loving God, we thank you for our opportunities to go to school, to learn and to play together. Help us to support those less fortunate than ourselves.
We make our prayer through Jesus your Son.
Amen.

Saint Anthony of Padua
Born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1195.
Died in Padua, Italy, on 13 June 1231.

He was a  Catholic priest and friar of the Franciscan Order. He was born and raised by a wealthy family and was well educated. He was known for his  engaging preaching, expert knowledge of scripture, and his love and devotion to the poor and the sick.  He was very much loved by the people of Padua and was canonised a saint very quickly after his death.  He is known as the patron saint of lost things.

Let us pray
St Anthony, you showed many people the path to God's love. When we are feeling lost or lonely, we ask you to guide us on that same path to God's love. Amen.

Praying Dadirri
  • Experience a Dadirri time of deep listening, inner quiet, still awareness, and waiting.
  • Go outside and simply sit and look at and listen to the earth and surrounding environment Focus on something specific a blade of grass, a clump of soil, cracked earth, a flower, a bush or leaf, a cloud in the sky, the feel of the breeze, the sound of a bird or the branches of a tree. Be still and silent and listen. Respond to this experience by journalling, writing poetry, drawing, painting or singing a prayer.

Praying with a Finger Labyrinth
  • Download a labyrinth template. Trace with a coloured pencil or with your index finger.
Suggested Script:
  • Look carefully at the pattern of the labyrinth.
  • Slow down your breathing and still your body and your mind.
  • Begin at the entrance to the Labyrinth and trace the path into the centre with your finger or pencil. Trace the path very slowly......
  • When you get to the centre, rest there and ask God to bless you and be with you in all you do and say. Breathe and spend some time in silent prayer.
  • Make the journey out breathing in and out slowly.
  • Be aware of God’s love and how God is calling you to be a person of truth or love or peace.
  • When you have completed the journey out from the centre, give thanks to God and ask God for help.
  • Place your hands gently on the labyrinth and rest with your eyes closed.
