St John Fisher and St Thomas More
St John Fisher was executed by order of Henry VIII during the English Reformation for refusing to accept the King as Supreme Head of the Church of England and for upholding the Catholic Church's doctrine of papal supremacy. He was named a cardinal shortly before his death. He is honoured as a martyr and saint by the Catholic Church. He shares his feast day with St Thomas More on 22 June in the Catholic calendar of saints. St Thomas More was likely one of Henry VIII's most effective servants, and was fiercely loyal to the king. He prosecuted those accused of heresy and worked tirelessly to defend the Catholic faith in England. This was an arduous, but achievable task until Henry prepare to move away from the Catholic Church. He was also executed by Henry VIII stating just before his death, I am the king's good servant, but God's first." Feast of St Paulinus of Nola
St Paulinus and his wife Therasia led a luxury filled life but after death of his baby son they retreated from the world and were baptized a Christian. They gave away their property and vast fortune to the poor and to the Church. St Paulinus welcomed the sick and dying into this home and was elected Bishop of Nola. He served the needy until his death. Pray for the poor: God, we remember the poor and neglected whom we can easily forget in our daily lives: please care for our homeless and those in need, please remember our old and the sick, especially those that are on their own. Amen. Image: St Paulinus - https://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=5329 |

The Nativity of John the Baptist
John began public ministry around 30 AD, and was known for attracting large crowds across the province of Judaea and around the Jordan River. When Jesus came to him to be baptized, John recognized him and said, "It is I who need baptism from you." Jesus told John to baptize Him anyway, which he did, whereupon the heavens opened, and the Spirit of God was seen like a dove. The voice of God spoke, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Pray Image: Baptism - https://pixabay.com/images/id-1016443/ |

Pray for peace and a restful break
Pray that we each have a peaceful and relaxing break after a term like we have never had before. Be grateful for the work we have covered and the friends and family that have kept us safe and well. Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed, kindle in the hearts of all men the true love of peace, and guide with Your pure and peaceable wisdom those who make decisions for the nations of the earth; that in tranquility Your kingdom may go forward, till the earth be filled with the knowledge of Your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Image: Peace - skeeze - https://pixabay.com/images/id-1714807/ |
