17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
John 6: 1-15 Feeding of the 5000. The feeding of a multitude with food abundantly and freely supplied foreshadowed the banquet of the kingdom, to which it was Jesus' task to issues invitations. More immediately, the feeding foreshadows the Eucharist, which is itself a sacramental anticipation of the divine hospitality of the kingdom. Byrne, B, (2014). Life Abounding. Reflection How do we invite people through hospitality to be included? Do we seek out the poor, the marginalised, the lame? To what have we been invited and how do we live the Eucharist every day. Write an entry into a prayer journal reflecting on this reading. Gospel Reflection |

Lectio Divina
Lectio Divina is Latin for spiritual or sacred reading. It is a simple method of praying the scripture that has deep roots in the Benedictine tradition. In general, this process involves four parts (or moments). These are only a guide and can be adapted to the needs of the group. The four moments are as follows: Read and Listen Listen to the passage with the ear of the heart and let the words sink in deeply. Read and Reflect Reflect on the passage paying attention to how it speaks to you personally. There may be a word or phrase that captures your attention. Read and Respond Respond through prayer (publicly or privately). Rest Rest silently in God’s presence. Image: https://pixabay.com/en/writing-the-scriptures-lectio-divina-2480987/ |

Saint Peter Julian Eymard
Saint Peter Julian Eymard is known for his devotion to the Eucharist and the Blessed Sacrament. This devotion grew gradually over his life. His mission became to promote the importance and the significance of the Eucharist and to prepare the poor for Communion. The Eucharist is seen as the source and summit of the Catholic faith. As we saw in the Sunday Reading to begin the week Jesus is the Bread of Life. Reflection How do we see the Eucharist today? Is this something that nurtures and brings people closer to each other and God? Take the time to attend parish mass and to reflect on connection to others and God through the Eucharist.
