Feast of St Lawrence
St Lawrence was an early deacon of the church. The Roman authorities executed him as a martyr. He showed his faith in Christ by putting himself in the service of the poor. He valued people more than his life. Brainstorm ways in which you can be of service to others and construct a short prayer seeking the courage to take a stand for others. Share this in your class as part of the day's prayer. Image: St Lawrence Deacon and Martyr - https://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=366 |

St. Jane Frances de Chantal
Jane's beloved husband was killed in a hunting accident which left her heartbroken. Jane forgave the man who killed her husband and went on to raise four children and care for the sick, elderly and poor. Jane founded the Visitation order for women who were rejected by other orders because of poor health or age. She even accepted a woman who was 83 years old. When people criticized her, she said, "What do you want me to do? I like sick people myself; I'm on their side." She believed that people should have a chance to live their calling regardless of their health. Saint Jane, you forgave the man who killed your husband. Help me learn to forgive a particular person in my life who has caused me harm. You know how difficult it is to forgive. Help me to take the steps you took to welcome this person back into my life. The Assumption of the Blessed Mary
August 15 is the feast day of the Assumption of Mary, which is an important day on the Church calendar. On this day each year, Catholics celebrate the assumption of Mary into heaven. Father in heaven, all creation rightly gives you praise, for all life and all holiness come from you. In the plan of your wisdom she who bore the Christ in her womb was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven. May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness and join in her hymn of endless love and praise. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
