Praying with the Body
Create a Works of Mercy Tableau Spiritual: acts of compassion by which we help our neighbors with their emotional and spiritual needs—counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish sinners, comfort the afflicted, forgive offenses, bear wrongs patiently, pray for the living and the dead. Corporal: kind acts by which we help our neighbors with their material and physical needs—feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the imprisoned, remember the dead In groups students are assigned a specific work of mercy to present a single acted out image of tableau. A prayer bell signals for the next work of mercy to be proclaimed and portrayed. Conclude this time with a time of silence and reflection. |

Saint Bernard (1090 – 1153)
Saint Bernard is remembered as a writer on theology and spirituality, an eloquent preacher and adviser of popes and kings. Saint Bernard emphasised the importance of lectio divina. Lectio divina consists of reading Scripture, thinking about its meaning, and speaking with God about it. Use this form of prayer with a selected verse and response from Psalms 139, 121 or 27. Students write their chosen word or phrase in Prayer Journal and write or draw a prayer response. |
