Remembrance Day
Explore the symbols associated with Remembrance Day and familiarise students with the rituals and words, e.g. one minute of silence, red poppies. Pray a Litany of Remembrance for Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. Use this example as a model for writing a Litany with the response “we remember them.” Venerable Catherine McAuley (1778 – 1841) was the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy and is remembered for helping the poor, especially children and young women. Catherine’s deep faith in God who is Mercy, and her experience of the pain of poverty, shaped her prayer and, in turn, prayer shaped her ministry. Listen to and pray with the special prayer of Catherine named The Suscipe. |
