32nd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Luke 20: 27-38 Gospel Reflection Jesus has completed his journey. Having arrived in Jerusalem, he teaches boldly in the Temple, aware that his enemies, ‘the chief priests and the scribes, with leading citizens’ want to ‘do away with him’ (Lk 19:47). At this point, Luke includes several incidents of ugly confrontation. That chosen for today’s gospel reading – concerned with resurrection – has intimations of the tragic drama that lies ahead. Remembrance Day
Explore the symbols associated with Remembrance Day and familiarise students with the rituals and words, e.g. one minute of silence, red poppies. Pray a Litany of Remembrance for Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. Use this example as a model for writing a Litany with the response “we remember them.” God of love and liberty, we bring our thanks this day for the peace and security we enjoy, which was won for us through the courage and devotion of those who gave their lives in time of war. We pray that their labour and sacrifice may not be in vain, but that their spirit may live on in us and in generations to come. That the liberty, truth and justice which they sought to preserve may be seen and known in all the nations upon earth. This we pray in the name of the one who gave his life for the sake of the world, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Image: Tim Hill - Poppies - https://pixabay.com/images/id-4291706/ |

Praying with Mandalas
Lead students in a prayer experience with form, colour and quiet. Take a blank circle and beginning at the centre, invite them to draw their own mandala that reflects their journey for this year. Older students could watch How to Grow a Mandala. Image: Mandala - XiaoMifeng81 - https://pixabay.com/images/id-1757304/ |

World Kindness Day
The children could be asked to make a drawing or painting that depicts kindness, or write what kindness means to them, or create a poem about kindness, or ways in which they can be kind to themselves, to others, to the environment, and so on. They could also be asked to describe why they should be kind to themselves and others, and what the world would be like if people were kinder to one another. What can we learn about God's wisdom?
Ask students to think of a situation in life where they need God's wisdom at the moment. Invite them to write a script between themselves and God. For example: Lucas: God, I'm not sure what subjects to choose for next year. God: What are you thinking about? Lucas: I'm trying to choose between.... God: Students spontaneously write whatever they believe God would really say to them. When the script comes to a natural conclusion read it from the start, and then silently thank God for the wisdom imparted through this prayer. Make the World a Better Place
Students to move into groups of 4 or 5. Reflect on the people who've made our world a better place, and spent much of their lives helping others to have a better quality life. Ask each group to identify three different qualities of such people, then complete the following three lines: God, we give thanks for those who have shown _________ in our world. God, we give thanks for those who have shown ___________ in our world. God, we give thanks for those who have _________ in our world. (Mercy; compassion; love; justice; faithfulness). For the last line elaborate more, such as, 'God, we give thanks for those who have had the courage to care in our world'. Each group say the prayer for the whole class or in their groups.
