Praying with Music
  • The Matt Maher song ‘Hold us Together’ is suggested here for older students. The prayer experience could be modified for younger students using a song they know or some relaxation music e.g. 10 Best Classical Music Tracks For Calm and Tranquility
  • Step 1: Prepare students to enter into this time of prayer.
  • Step 2: Show video without sound and invite students to reflect on the lyrics and/or the accompanying images.
  • Step 3: Play the song/music again and invite students to record any word/phrase or image that grabs their attention.
  • Step 4:  As the song/music plays again, invite students to write, draw or colour a prayer response.

Praying with the Gospel: Lectio Divina.
Pray with this short passage from the Gospel using the 5 steps of Lectio Divina.
Jesus said ‘Do not worry and ask yourselves, “Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear?” Only people who don’t know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of these.  But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.
Do not worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today"

Grace before meals
  • Stopping to pray Grace before lunch.
  • Lead students in a simple prayer of asking God to bless their food and giving thanks for the food they about to eat. Pray a formal Grace  ; an informal spontaneous Grace;  or compose a Grace before Meals using the You Who Do Through structure. Grace prayers could be written on Grace Mats. Scripture to reflect on during this time in Lent
Matthew 6:1, 16-25
Jesus said to his disciples: "Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father….
…. I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
Reflection
Students to sit quietly and think about these words from the gospel OR discuss its meaning as a class.

Project Compassion Story
Rattanak is a skilled young barber, living an independent life in rural Cambodia. But it wasn’t always that way. As a child he contracted polio and also became deaf. Like many people who are deaf or hard of hearing, Rattanak faced isolation at home, with a lack of opportunity to escape poverty.
Follow his story.
