4th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C
Gospel: Luke 4:21-30 The theme of today’s liturgy is the role of the prophet. Prophets have always had an important place in the life of the Church. This comes as a surprise to most people – probably because they think of prophets as those who predict future events: something that rarely happened. Prophets are people who – because they are in tune with God – help us to see things as God sees them. St Paul Miki and companions
Who was St Paul Miki? Pray in thanksgiving for the witness of these Martyrs of Japan and for those who, in our time, are dying for the faith. Feast Day of St Jerome Emiliani and St Josephine Bakhita
St Jerome Cared for and ministered to many famine and plague victims, and came to focus his attention on the many children who had been orphaned by these epidemics. Using his own money to rent a house for the orphans, he began feeding, clothing and educating them. Find out more on his life from the link above. St Josephine St Josephine Bakhita knew slavery. She was a Sudanese woman who was sold and resold five times in the markets of El Obeid and of Khartoum. Her experience of slavery was both physical and moral. Prayer for St Jospehine Bakhita Leader: We remember today, loving God, those who are victims of slavery and all those who work to restore their dignity and we pray: All: As brothers and sisters, therefore, all people are in relation with others, from whom they differ, but with whom they share the same origin, nature and dignity. We pray that the dignity of all humanity may be respected Image: public domain - https://www.google.com/search?site=imghp&tbm=isch&q=st%20josephine%20bakhita&tbs=sur:fc#imgrc=LteYef2WTYcHvM: |
